Thank you for giving me the pleasure of judging October’s competition.
A picture connects with the viewer through composition, focus, light, tone and focal length but the best images also portray mood or feeling. I would also say that while technical excellence is important I’m also looking for good lighting, contrast, emotion, and if possible, a story.
I sense that many struggled with this topic and this is borne out by the number of shots that are tightly cropped or submitted in black and white, and a couple that have a tenuous connection with mechanical. None the less all entrants deserve recognition for giving this a go. If you aren’t placed don’t take it personally as after the technical aspects of the photograph, the judging is really a personal opinion. Another judge on another day may have judged your photograph completely differently. At the end of this document you will the results of the judging.
