El Cotillo

Coastal Photography in Fuerteventura by Gwynn Price

These are just some of the fantastic beaches around our great island. They offer great photo opportunities and also places to go and chill out and see what our beautiful island has to offer. I have been here 5 and half years now and I am still finding new places to explore. there are also stunning locations inland as well, with Barrancas and mountain top viewpoints, but they may follow at a later date. Get out and about and enjoy our lovely island of FUERTEVENTURA.

Well known spot for surfers, and quad bikers. Nice spot for chilling out and great photo opportunities to get some action in with the surfers. Just outside of Lajares [about 5 mins] on the North Coast.

El Cotillo

North West of the island. Well known. Small harbor, plenty of restaurants. Beautiful lagoons that stretch far and wide and lovely beaches from the cliffs on the other side of town. Usually busy in the summer for swimming and sunbathing, under normal conditions.

Playa de Valle

Known to us as Aqua Verdes, the name of the complex nearby as per the map.

This is a well-known spot by the locals and it does get busy. Located off the main road between Antigua and Rosario past the village of Llanos de la Concepcion and do a left, it is signposted. Again out of the way but well worth a visit. You can drive down to the beach, [all pebbles] and when the tide is out, the rock formations are stunning. You can go climbing onto the rocks and take great photos. Again no facilities so take some with you.

A well-known tourist spot. On the west coast. Restaurants on the beach, but as you walk down to the beach from the top car park there is a Spanish cafe on the right, good food and good prices. The climb up the cliff from the beach is ok and great views and you can climb down to the caves which are stunning. It is worth spending some time there, have lunch or afternoon tea.

Las Salopas

Just south of Ajuy, and known to us as Chicken Beach.

This is a fantastic beach, all black sand, and the rock formations are stunning. great photo opportunities, will take you a couple of hours to go around, but good for chilling out as well. Take refreshments as there are no facilities. You will also find chickens live in the bush at the top of the beach and you may see them walking about, take some corn with you and feed them, they will be grateful. you will have to look for this place, if you go thru Pajara and head towards Ajuy but don’t take the right-hand turn, keep going, a few hundred yards past a row of palm trees on the left there is a track on the right-hand side, turn off and follow this track, [it is quite level and easily passable,] for about 3/4 kilometers, at the top of the cliff turn right at the signpost and drive down to the beach. Enjoy.

Las Salinas

These 3 beaches are past the Salt Musem south of Caleta de Fuste, follow the road past the museum, turn left into Las Salinas, call into the little church there, lovely. As you are coming away up the hill to come out of the village turn left go past the villas and keep going and the beaches are one after another. Great for just chilling out and good photo opportunities.

Puerto de la Torre

Caleta de la Bellena

Caleta Blanca

Pozo Negro

This lovely little quiet spot is between Caleta de Fuste and Gran Tarajal on the east coast. Well known, and the catamaran usually puts into the cove from Caleta. Very nice restaurant right on the front.

El Jablillo

This beach is near the Entalada Lighthouse near Las Playitas on the East Coast just before Gran Tarajal. Fantastic rock formations, usually quiet, great photo opportunity. Take refreshments as there are no facilities.
