April 2024 – On the Street
Judge: Steve Goldsmith
Thank you everyone for submitting your entries to this month’s competition, as many of you know I’m very keen on Street Photography and the criteria I look for in Street Photography work, which is that the photograph reflects the title and that the story the photographer wants to tell can be seen in a single shot. It is fine to lead the viewer along a journey within the photograph and allow the viewer to use their imagination as to what happened before, is about to happen or what could happen when the photographer pushes the shutter button. As always any opinion or comments I give are my own and reflect how I see the photograph, and a different judge on a different day my well see the photograph differently. What I believe is important is we all develop our skills and take photographs people want to view. We all know how phones have improved and today they have excellent quality, but as I look through this selection of photographs (on a large screen) I believe those taken on phones on a low pixel count do lack an element of sharpness that is captured on a camera.
